Blue Nile sells $1.5million diamond

Posted on 26 October 2007

Blue Nile received a call in June on their customer service line. At the other end a buyer requested a diamond of over 10 carats. A diamond about the size of a penny. Three days later, after diverting the diamond from a trip to Italy, and being delivered in a Brink’s truck, the customer had what may be the single largest purchase made on the internet.

Co-founder Mark Vadon, who initially thought that the order was too good to be true and likely a fraud, says “This shows we’re becoming a trusted luxury brand.”

Blue Nile’s trust factor continues to grow. In the first half of 2007 they have sold twice as many rings over $50,000 than in all of 2006. Much of this is attributed to the safely anonymous and pressure free buying process. This can be especially important for male purchasers that can feel out of their element walking in to a jewelry store.

  1. Kerala Girls says:

Not all diamond jewelry stores are the same so check reviews first before buying on a jewelry store;~,

  2. Magnificent post. It’s hard for me to believe that people who read very little – or not at all in some cases – should presume to write and expect people to like what they have written. Can I be blunt on this subject? If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time – or the tools – to write. Simple as that.
